Walking the Laguna de Santa Rosa Trail

If you’re looking for a mellow, flat trail to take your kids and/or doggies for a nice stroll, the Laguna de Santa Rosa trail is a great choice!
Laguna de Santa Rosa is a wetland area with a new trail system for exploring it on foot. The area is located North of Highway 12 (near Sebastopol) and South of Occidental Road in West Santa Rosa.

The trails are not long, the longest one is just under 2 miles. But you can make it longer by taking some of the offshoots that go along the water channels. What we enjoyed aboutLaguna de Santa Rosa is that the trails are wide, flat, and easy for kids to walk without any obstacles.

There are views of St. Helena, vineyards, and the hills of Sebastopol.

There is a nice place to stop for a snack and sit and enjoy the views. Since the area is mostly wetlands, there are many different breeds of birds making their homes there.

We parked at the South lot just off of Highway 12 right before you get into Sebastopol and walked to the other end of the Trail at Occidental Road. Either one of those trailheads is easy to use. However, on another occasion we also tried to enter at the Sebastopol Community Center and couldn’t find the main trail. We walked in circles for a little while and finally gave up. I hope someone else can figure it out because we felt like we were in the twilight zone!

This trail is mostly good for Fall/Winter hikes because there is no shade in the area. Also it looked like bikes are allowed on the main trail only. For more information on this trail and for maps visit the Laguna de Santa Rosa Trail page. Have fun!

Laguna de Santa Rosa is located at 6303 Highway 12, Santa Rosa. For more information visit their website at https://sonomacountykids.comparks.sonomacounty.ca.gov/Get_Outdoors/Parks/Laguna_de_Santa_Rosa_Trail.aspx.
