Helen Putnam Park in Petaluma

Helen Putnam is the perfect park for a mini-adventure! I have a 3-year-old wilderness junkie who loves to hike. Since his little legs are just getting into shape, a couple miles is about all we can do. Helen Putnam offers a network of trails that all interconnect and provide great hikes that you can make however short or long you like.

Helen Putnam Park is located just outside West Petaluma. It is full of hikers, runners, dog-walkers, and mountain bikers. There are hills to get a workout on as well as some flat areas for a mellow stroll.

The Panoramic Trail offers killer views of the Petaluma Hills and Petaluma town.

With lots of places to chill out and enjoy those views

On a hot day the Filaree, Pomo, and South Loop Trails all offer shade under Oak trees.

There is a fish pond in the park within a few minutes walk from the park entrance. It is stocked with some bluegills and other small fish. You can fish in the pond too – perfect for little ones learning how to fish!

After your hike, you can let your kids play at the small play structure next to the parking lot. There are picnic tables under the shade of a gazebo, perfect for a picnic lunch.

The East side of the park can also be accessed from Oxford Court, a residential area, with no parking fees. Helen Putnam Park is a Sonoma County Regional Park so parking fees apply at the main entrance. Of course if you have an annual parks membership, parking is free!

Helen Putnam Park is also featured in the Sonoma County Trails Challenge – hike 5 of the 15 new trails challenge and get a free water bottle!
