We live in wonderful Sonoma County with a wealth of things to do in the great outdoors: hiking, biking, picnicking, swimming, visiting a local farm, going to the beach, farmers markets, and countless numbers of parks in every town. But what about those rainy days? Good news - there are a lot of places to play indoors too!

Below is a list of indoor play places in Sonoma County. Please email us at info@sonomacountykids if we have missed any.son

Sonoma County Libraries. Don't forget about your local library branch, chock full of hundreds of books for your little ones to look through, be read to, or read themselves. My little ones love having their very own library card and being able to scan the books and check them out themselves. Your local library also has a calendar full of special events each month and regular story and music times for different age groups. Considering this is all FREE and educational entertainment, this is our number one pick for indoor play places!

Double Decker Lanes in RPBoulevard Lanes in Petaluma, and Windsor Bowling Center. The bowling alleys contain a lot more than bowling! Both these bowling alleys have arcades and pool tables galore. My youngest one just loves to sit in the arcade game booths and pretend to play, no quarters necessary. Younger bowlers can be accommodated with "ramps" to roll the ball out of, and bumpers can be raised to make sure every ball isin't in the gutter! Sometimes they can even turn the lights down and make it a disco bowl theme. The bowling alleys serve food and beverages. Windsor offers Rock-n-Glow every Monday 5-10pm.

Cal Skate in RP. Cal Skate can be fun for even the tots - they have a lot of disco lights that the kids love and they play fun music during the skate sessions. They offer "Kids Skate" every Monday and Thursday 9:30-11:30am. This is when parents can come out on the rink with their little ones and hold hands and help them learn how to get comfortable on skates. You can get the kids' wheels tightened so they don't roll too fast. There is a snack bar and some arcade games on site.

Go see a movie! Did you know that at Reading Cinemas in Rohnert Park any movie on any day that starts before 12:00pm is only $5.75? And kids 3 and under are FREE! Yes you can still afford to go to the movies! Kids love the big screen! We always arrive at least 30 minutes before the movie so the kids can run around the huge lobby getting their wiggles out. They always have large cardboard cutouts of all the upcoming movie characters. Perfect for hide-and-seek. They also have an arcade for extra fun. Every Wednesday around 1pm, RP Reading Cinemas offers the "Crybaby Matinee." This is for parents and their little ones to be able to relax and enjoy a movie without worrying about unexpected tantrums or feedings in the dark. The lights are dimmed and the volume is low. A baby changing table and stroller valet are provided. Price is regular matinee admission for adults and children under 5 get in FREE!
